Change Is Good?

I am a creature of habit.

A creature of routine.

I thrive on it. (Just ask hubs…)

I drive the same route, change lanes at the same spot. Eat the same things at our favorite restaurants, make the same dinners.

I like predictability and knowing what to expect. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right?

So change? Yeah, I don’t like so much. Him or his cousins with names that make you think it’s something fun when it’s really just change in disguise: spontaneity, surprise, suspense… no thank you.

Given that tidbit of information about me, it may not surprise you to hear that when I sense a deep-seeded burning calling within my core to – gulp – change, it doesn’t feel so good.

It’s uncomfortable.

Like wearing someone else’s Birkenstock’s.

And it’s scary.

Like standing atop the tallest bridge in the world with some dental floss tied around your ankles and someone pushing you over the edge scary.

And yet, that is the exact place in which I find myself these days. Change is needed. Immense, in-depth, not sure you’ll recognize me kind of change. In so many facets of my life it literally takes my breath away, heart racing, to think through it all.

Alas, that is where His voice is calling me. His Hand leading me. Guiding me. Nay, carrying me.

And that is the One thing that is keeping me together as I stare down the barrel of this mother of a gun. It is also the One thing thing keeping me from running, terrified, in the complete opposite direction. Because I know that I know that I know, if He is the One calling me to this change – to walk through this valley – then He will indeed walk through with me. And He will see it through to completion.

Lord have mercy, I need You.

How about you? Anything utterly terrifying you know deep in your heart of hearts you are meant to undertake? How do you deal with change? How about you?

Sounds ominous. God, let your presence be known and felt by this dear sister, Jennifer. Give her wisdom and understanding as she goes down this path of change. Help her to trust you because anything you are truly calling her to do will only make her more like you.In Jesus name, Amen

A teacher once said, “If it’s not broken, break it!” This thought has stayed with me- we should be living our lives submitted to His will, not our own right? I understand this struggle though! But I’m excited for you- because God is clearly up to something and what He does is always GOOD!

Good Stuff. The one thing for us this year that has been constant is the change. We have some change left on the horizon, we’re moving. We are going about 6 hours south of where we are now and we can’t wait. This change signifies less change and more stability for us and our ministry.

That changing has kept me leaning on Him though. Good post.

  4. You sound just like me, change is one of my least favorite words. And YET, I’ve moved 13 times in 12 years, we’re on the road constantly, my husband is a minister and travels to preach all the time, oh I could go on and on and on… for me the deep seated change that needs to happen is finding a way to keep my heart quiet and at peace in the midst of the chaos. I have reconciled myself with the fact that our life is crazy, and it probably won’t change, therefore I have to change. Believe me when I say, my prayer life is growing in leaps and bounds!!! thanks for linking up this week!
